Shakur Stevenson gives update on his promotional future

Shakur Stevenson gives update on his promotional futureMark Robinson/Matchroom Boxing
Is he signing with Matchroom Boxing?

Just earlier this month, Shakur Stevenson sat ringside next to Eddie Hearn to watch and support friend Terence Crawford defeat Israil Madrimov via unanimous decision in Los Angeles.

But does that mean the WBC lightweight world champion is inching closer to signing with the Matchroom Boxing promoter?

Not necessarily, according to the promotional free-agent Stevenson who is no longer fighting under Top Rank.

"I got nothing but love for Eddie Hearn and his promotional company, Matchroom," Stevenson began telling DAZN's Akin Reyes and Barak Bess recently. "I ain't really made no decision yet, though. I'm not locked in and I ain't making no decisions."

When pressed on whether he's narrowing down his options of promotional outfits to represent him, Stevenson offered: "It's going to happen. Whatever happens is going to happen and it's going to happen the way it's supposed to happen."

On when, Stevenson countered with a smile, "don't know, we got to sit back and wait."

Although he kept mum on whether a meeting with Matchroom transpired in Los Angeles, Stevenson divulged that he planned on meeting with Floyd Mayweather Jr. who has been an ardent supporter of the Newark, New Jersey fighter through the years.

He also mentioned that he had a conversation with PBC.

Stevenson added that regardless of who he signs with, he's looking to boost his fighting profile and for flexibility within that structure.

"It's about who could put me in the best situation, who could get me the biggest fights, who could help me out in that aspect.

"That's what I'm really looking for, a fight-to-fight [deal], but truthfully speaking I'm talking to everybody."
