Shakur Stevenson had observed Devin Haney confront boxers right after their wins.
After all, Haney has stormed the ring to confront a victorious Ryan Garcia and Vasiliy Lomachenko after their respective wins in the past.
So, when Stevenson attempted to do the same with Haney himself following the undisputed lightweight world champion's win over Lomachenko in May, he thought it was all fair game. However, in hindsight, Stevenson explains why the moment turned "weird" instead.
"It's just me — no security guards, nobody with me — I jump in the ring," Stevenson began explaining to the 2nd Wind Podcast. "I'm thinking now like 'what's about to happen? What up? I'm face-to-face with ya'll, it ain't like we're on social media. It's just me. It's four or five of ya'll.'
"Man, that man looked at me, said something quick and hurried up and got out the ring," he continued. "I'm like ... 'what type of ...
"That's weird because ain't we supposed to be fighting? Why are you running away? Is you scared? I don't know what it was. I can't tell but I was just checking the temperature."
Just as Stevenson said, he confronted Haney in the ring following the "Dream's" win over Lomachenko. Haney would only remind Stevenson that he's "No. 1" at lightweight to which Stevenson shot back, "for now, bro."
Haney would spurn the Newark, New Jersey product even further by later opting to move up and challenge for Regis Prograis' WBC junior welterweight world title instead of staying at lightweight to fight Stevenson.
