Sergio Mora believes that Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis deserves criticism for not yet building out his boxing resume.
Tank is 27 years old but under the supervision of Floyd Mayweather has fought mostly small names despite his talent, and targeted lesser belts across the divisions.
While that leaves him with an unbeaten record, and he sells tickets across the US, Mora thinks that he needs to start taking on high profile fighters.
“Yes, it’s deserved,” he said of the criticism on JABS as part of the DAZN Boxing Show.
“I can tell you that I will be on the hate train, criticising Tank Davis for not picking one of these big names at 135 or 140. Pick a division.
“If you want to stay at 135 you’ve got [Devin] Haney, [George] Kambosos and [Ryan] Garcia.
“If you’re at 140, you’ve got [Josh] Taylor, [Regis] Prograis, and Jose Ramirez. We just want you to fight one of these big dogs. You have great potential, but you’re good, when you have great potential. Beat the best of your generation.”
Pundit Chris Mannix agreed.
“Gervonta Davis needs to take control of his resume,” he explained. “He is 27 and has one quality win on his resume. That’s absurd.
“These divisions are talent-rich. We can dream about Tank vs Regis Prograis, but you know what we’re probably going to get? Tank vs Rolly Romero. That’s what’s most likely to happen, because Davis won’t speak up and say. ‘Make the big fights for me.’
“They still may not happen, but I want to see him push for the big fights.”
