Teddy Atlas explains why he believes Canelo Alvarez is 'overrated'DAZN
The legendary trainer and analyst did not hold back when discussing the Mexican's fighting ability.

Teddy Atlas has claimed that the undisputed super middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is someone who is 'overrated'.

While this will be seen as an outlandish claim by many boxing fans, there will be some who agree with this view and believe the Mexican's best performances are behind him, and is now on the decline.

With 63 professional fights under his belt, the amount of rounds Alvarez will have fought inside the ring will eventually catch up with him, but he is showing no signs of slowing down with his next fight on September 30 coming against the undisputed champion at light middleweight, Jermell Charlo.

Atlas meanwhile is someone who believes that Alvarez's ability to make easy work of opponents is slipping away and cited his points win in the trilogy fight with Gennadiy Golovkin last year as a prime example.

“[That fight] also showed me Canelo is overrated," Atlas told The Fight

"I know the Mexican fans weren’t waiting to hear that. But it did, it showed he couldn’t get rid of him at this point in his career.

"As much as a lot of people build him up, he should have got rid of him. It showed me Canelo is slipping. Whatever he was, great or almost great, whatever that level was, it’s a little less now. He’s slipping.”
