Diego Pacheco is keen to test himself against Canelo Alvarez, and one popular figure within the sport believes he could be ready.
Teddy Atlas is very impressed with Pacheco, who maintained his unbeaten record last month with a superb stoppage win against Maciej Sulecki.
Now seen as one of the brightest talents in world boxing, Pacheco is aiming high and that could mean a big showdown with the Mexican star.
Atlas, one of boxing’s most respected voices, thinks Canelo would be wise to stay clear of the fast-rising Californian.
“I’m not saying he’s afraid, what I’m saying is Pacheco represents a bad match-up style-wise for Canelo at this point in his career,” said Atlas when speaking on The Fight podcast .
“He’s terrific, Canelo, he’s a great counterpuncher, he’s got power, he’s achieved great things, but when you start getting older and you start slowing down a little bit in certain areas, the first thing that’s a problem is legs.
“It’s harder to close a gap with the older legs. You’re more susceptible. The physical style of Pacheco is a nightmare match-up."
