Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney squared up outside the ring as they both attended the Sandor Martin vs. Mikey Garcia fight on Saturday night.
Haney is the WBC champion, while Lopez holds all over titles from the major bodies, but it is also the WBC franchise belt holder, which muddies the water over who is the WBC’s premier champion, and whether Lopez can claim to be a true undisputed champion at 135lbs.
Haney looks on course to meet Jojo Diaz on December 4, and a November 27 date now work for Lopez’s defense against George Kambosos Jr. Assuming they both emerge victorious, then the next fight for the pair could be a bout to clear up any more arguments.
While the pair and their entourage exchanged viewpoints between one another, there appeared to be little bad blood, with Lopez’s father and Eddie Hearn both looking on. Handshakes were exchanged between various representatives, but there were no fireworks.
Lopez has previously said that he is keen to move up the weights for more high-profile fights, with little inclination to rematch Vasiliy Lomachenko. However, time may be running out to make the fight.
