The unified lightweight champion is making plans to put on the pounds.

Teofimo Lopez is happy to move through the weight classes to make big fights, and wonders if some potential opponents will drop back to 135lbs to avoid him.

Lopez is the lightweight division unified champion, with Devin Haney holding the weight class’s other title, the WBC regular belt.

There have been suggestions, not least from Lopez himself, that he would look to move up the divisions in order to add to his belt. Speaking to the DAZN Boxing Show, Lopez explained that he still has at least two more names on his list he wants to beat in the lightweight division.

“They are all food, that’s what it is,” he said.

“Lomachenko was dessert, George Kambosos Jr is going to be breakfast, and Haney is dinner, and we’ll see who’s lunch at 140lbs.

“When I beat Kambosos and when I knock out Devin... if Teofimo goes to 140lbs and [Gervonta] Davis is going to be back at 135. There’s a pattern here. He’s avoiding me and he was avoiding Lomachenko.

“I get what’s happening. He’s going to be a three time interim champion at three different divisions. It’s cute. Everybody’s got a job to do. Devin Haney accomplished his - he can boast about it. Now it’s my turn, then it’s Tank Davis’ turn. I’m not dodging nobody.”

Lopez, who was recently compared to Floyd Mayweather Jr., was then asked if he saw himself moving up the weights to welterweight or beyond, and he suggested that middleweight might be his natural limit.

“Right now I’m at 146, so I’m only 11 pounds [off lightweight] and have two or three weeks left.

“I’ve been devoted, I'm in the gym because I know I can’t finish at 135 with George Kambosos. I have to finish with Tank Davis and Devin Haney.

“Ryan Garcia’s got his own battles right now. I want to close out the 135lbs division. At 140lbs, Josh Taylor we want to go after, wherever God takes it, 160lbs, who knows?”
