On Saturday, Teofimo Lopez makes his 2022 debut as he takes on veteran Pedro Campa from Resorts World Las Vegas.
As always, plenty of bets can be made with a big-time boxing card. Let's take a look at some of them.
Teofimo Lopez vs. Pedro Campa odds
Teofimo Lopez: -2500
Pedro Campa: +1000
(All odds via BetMGM)
BetMGM (as of Wednesday, Aug. 10) has Lopez installed as a massive favorite — coming in at -2500, meaning you'd need to bet a whopping $2,500 just to win $100. Meanwhile, Campa is the underdog at +1000, meaning if you pluck down $100, you will win $1,000 if the native of Mexico can score the upset and ruin potential big fights that loom ahead for Lopez.
Lopez's shocking loss to George Kambosos two days after Thanksgiving ruined any chances of the famous New Yorker partaking in super fights with the likes of Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, and Gervonta Davis.
Now operating at junior welterweight, the former three-belt lightweight champion is aiming to become a two-division world champion. He has long-time target, unified champion Josh Taylor, firmly in his sights. Standing in his way is Campa, who is coming off a third-round TKO victory over Carlos Sanchez Valadez.
Teofimo Lopez vs. Pedro Campa prediction
On paper, this looks to be a cakewalk for Lopez, and if we are being honest, it should be.
Campa's style is tailor-made for the former three-belt lightweight champion. He's there for Lopez to score an emphatic knockout or an impressive performance as Campa looks to stand in the middle of the pocket and move forward. Instead, Campa prefers being in your face and duking it out.
Lopez cannot afford to overlook Campa. And he won't. He possesses more skill than Campa. There's too much at stake. Every fight he's looking for would be straight out the window.
Campa has a better-than-average chin, so it will take Lopez some time to wear him down. When it comes down to it, Lopez will knock Campa out, but it's just a matter of when it happens.
Unless you have an obscene amount of money or are bored, putting any currency on Lopez to win is a bad play. Campa (+1000) is the best play here. Anything can happen in boxing, and there's always the possibility Lopez isn't taking Campa seriously. Any fighter can catch another at any given time.
Muehlhausen's pick: Teofimo Lopez
Best odds: Campa winning; +1000
