Terence Crawford believes Keith Thurman is a bigger fight than Shawn Porter

Terence Crawford defends his WBO welterweight title against Shawn Porter on November 20.

WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford is set for the highest profile fight of his 147lb career when he takes on Shawn Porter on November 20th in Las Vegas.

However, the WBO champion believes there are fights bigger than Porter out there, such as a clash with his rival Keith Thurman.

Speaking to a small group of reporters, Crawford labelled Porter a credible opponent, but expressed his desire to face Thurman.

"Yeah, it’s one of ‘em," Crawford said when discussing the magnitude of his fight with Porter.

"It’s definitely one of ‘em. But you still got fighters out there like Keith Thurman and [Yordenis] Ugas and these younger fighters that are coming up in the division."

"But I don’t believe Porter is the only welterweight out there that I can showcase my talent at a high level with. I believe Keith Thurman is a bigger fight, in my eyes, but Keith Thurman’s doing whatever he’s doing."

While Crawford is interested in a fight with Thurman, the latter has been inactive and hasn't fought since being beaten by the now retired Manny Pacquiao on points over two years ago.

"I feel like Keith Thurman, he was considered the number one fighter in the division," Crawford explained.

"Whether anybody likes it or not, Keith Thurman was the number one guy in the division. Pacquiao beat him. Nobody else beat him."

Thurman beat Porter on points when the two went head-to-head for the WBA title back in June 2016 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
