Jarron Ennis has repeatedly expressed the desire to clash with the consensus pound-for-pound best Terence Crawford. Well, how would "Boots" stack up with "Bud" if the two fought?
Not well, according to Crawford's trainer Brian "Bomac" Mcintyre, though he sees Ennis' talent.
"Can he fight? Yeah, he can fight," Mcintyre began telling Andre Ward during a recent "All The Smoke Fight" episode. "Is he going to be at the pinnacle one day? I'm sure he will."
But Mcintyre just doesn't believe that Ennis, the IBF welterweight world champion, is ready for Crawford, the four-division world champion who just grabbed the WBA junior middleweight title.
"No, he's not ready for Terence," Mcintyre said. "Hell no."
When Ward pressed Mcintyre to learn why he feels that way, Crawford's longtime trainer offered that Ennis "makes too many mistakes" in the ring.
"He gets hit with too many stuff that he shouldn't get hit with," Mcintyre tacked on. "I understand he takes the chances but you gotta be smart in there, young fella. If you get cracked with one of them with power on it, you're gonna feel it. You ain't gonna walk through that. So that's how I look at it."
Both Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) and Ennis (32-0 with 1 No Contest, 29 KOs) tout undefeated records.
