Kid Galahad is looking to continue the Ingle Gym legacy when he takes on Kiko Martinez in his first IBF featherweight title defence.

When DAZN News spoke to the IBF world featherweight champion Kid Galahad (28-1, 17 KOs) in the build-up to his first title defence against Kiko Martinez, it was clear Sheffield’s latest world champion was solely focused on the task at hand and revealed this particular mindset was something instilled by his former trainer and boxing legend Brendan Ingle.

“I was groomed by one of the last great trainers. Brendan Ingle, Cus D’Amato, them kind of trainers, they only come every 20 to 30 years,” Galahad explained to DAZN News.

“The things Brendan taught you, never take your eye off the ball.”

“People get complacent, he instilled in me to never get complacent. You’ve always got to be focused on the person in front of you.”

The 31-year-old also described what it was like when he entered the iconic Wincobank Gym as a teenager and how Ingle’s stable of world champions inspired his journey towards a world title.

“When I walked into the gym, I remember, I came in with my mum, and the gym was absolutely packed with fighters,” Galahad recalled.

“I walked down to the ring and I saw Johnny Nelson, Junior Witter, Ryan Rhodes, all these big-time professional boxers, they all look massive to me because the ring’s elevated in our gym.”

“I looked up and I knew that’s where I wanted to be and be a world champion.”

When it came to being able to carry on the Ingle family legacy, Galahad struggled to contain his excitement and is looking to do the family and the gym proud come November 13th exclusively live on DAZN.

“It’s a dream come true, I’ve always wanted to be in this position, be one of Brendan Ingle’s boys and carry on the legacy and I just can’t wait now.”

“I’ve got make sure I do a job on Kiko and carry on the legacy for as long as I can.”
