Boxing as a sport has never been healthier, and that is no part due to the influence of Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority in Saudi Arabia.
Ever since the first Riyadh Season boxing event between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou in October 2023, the events have gone from strength to strength with some historic matchups taking place, including the eagerly anticipated rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury on December 21 live on DAZN Pay-Per-View.
Alalshikh and Riyadh Season are always moving forward when it comes to making boxing history, and speaking on DAZN's Ariel and Ade: The Boxing Show, His Excellency revealed that he wants to bring a former world heavyweight champion out of retirement.
"The result of Tyson vs. Usyk, there are a lot of people waiting. One of them is Dubois, there is also Joshua, and at the same time there is a third person," Alalshikh said.
"I am dreaming to see this fight, to give a chance, if he accepts, to Klitschko to get back and have a chance of becoming the oldest heavyweight champion ever."
If Klitschko did return to the ring and became a two-time heavyweight champion, he would become the oldest boxer to be crowned a heavyweight champion, beating George Foreman's record of 45 years and 360 days.
When it comes to who Klitschko could face in a comeback fight, a second meeting with Fury was mentioned, and Alalshikh had a simple response to this fantasy fight.
"This is the dream."
Klitschko and Fury met for the IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles in 2015, with Fury producing one of his career best performances with a unanimous decision.
A rematch was then scheduled on two occasions for the following year, but this never came to fruition after Fury suffered an ankle injury and was struggling with his mental health.
