Oleksandr Usyk’s manager Egis Klimas was far from certain that the Ukrainian will be able to rearrange his fight with Tyson Fury.
The two fighters had been on course to meet on February 17, but a cut incurred during preparation for the bout led to an announcement that the clash would at the very least be delayed to allow the cut to heal.
The injury, on Fury’s right eyebrow, is a dangerous one for fighters to expose in a fight as the area can become vulnerable if it is not allowed to heal properly.
A cutman explained that injuries such as this can take three months to heal, and Klimas told Sky Sports that Fury "will do anything to not face Usyk" and joked that perhaps, "he was hit by a frying pan which he asked for.”
He said talks of a rearranged fight were "too early to say" and added: "It's very hot at the moment, we just got this straight from the oven."
Usyk's promoter, Alex Krassyuk, wrote underneath Fury's Instagram post with scepticism of his own, adding: "Wishing you soonest recovery. God sent you a sign. Think of retirement, brother."
