Tyson Fury believes that he will beat Anthony Joshua in just three rounds when they finally meet to potentially become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
The pair hold all the division’s major recognised world belts, as well as Fury’s The Ring (lineal) title and Joshua’s IBO championship, and they are set to announce at least one fight for 2021 in the coming weeks.
In anticipation of the fight, Fury took to Twitter to reveal his plans with trainer Sugarhill Steward.
Fury said: "I just got off the phone with Sugarhill Steward in America.
"We are going to smash AJ - one round, two rounds, three rounds. Done!
"Can't wait."
The pair of them have goaded each other occasionally over the past few years as the fight has been built up, and it seems as if Fury is almost certain the bout will go ahead soon.
Two of the major obstacles to an undisputed fight going ahead now seem to be close to resolution.
Joshua had anticipated that he could have to vacate his WBO belt in order to avoid a mandatory challenge from Oleksandr Usyk, but the body contacted the Ukrainian former cruiserweight over the possibility he may have to step aside for now.
Usyk's promoter Alexander Krassyuk confirmed that negotiations have started, and there is speculation that an eliminator bout with Joe Joyce could be on the cards that would crown the winner as interim champ. Another option may be that Joshua could vacate his WBO belt immediately after the Fury fight in order to give other fighters the chance to step up.
The remaining fighter with the potential to throw a spanner in the works is Deontay Wilder, who is contesting Fury’s decision to walk away from their trilogy rematch, but it appears any solution to the dispute will be compensation to the Bronze Bomber rather than an enforced fight.
