Tyson Fury will soon know his next opponent, according to co-promoter Bob Arum.
The Top Rank chief has said that Agit Kabayel and Carlos Takam are the two likeliest contenders for his planned fight on Dec. 5.
WBC heavyweight champion Fury had been expected to fight Deontay Wilder on Dec. 19 in his trilogy fight, but the 32-year-old Briton has declared he has ‘moved on’ from the proposed fight given the repeated delays.
Fury’s other promoter Frank Warren, and Arum, have both indicated that a lack of spectators meant that the fight would not be financially viable. Nonetheless, Fury has announced that he considers the contract with the Bronze Bomber to now be void.
Speaking to BoxingScene, Arum said an opponent is close to being chosen.
“He’s deciding on an opponent… I’m not doing a bus boy,” he said.
“Fury should beat Takam but Takam is at least known and he has been on ESPN. And he looked pretty good in the last fight.
“The other guy [Kabayel] is undefeated and he has fought some fairly decent guys. I haven’t come up with anybody else.”
German 28-year-old Kabayel has an inconsistent career record. He won the European title by beating Herve Hubeaux, and defended his belt successfully against Dereck Chisora.
He has failed to build on that early momentum with three fights in the last three years.
Meanwhile, French-Cameroonian 39-year-old Takam has plenty of experience, but with defeats to Chisora, Anthony Joshua, Joseph Parker and Alexander Povetkin, he appears unable to challenge the very best performers.
