LAS VEGAS — For the majority of Wednesday's Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder press conference, it was Wilder largely uninterested and not saying much while Fury was doing his best to sell the trilogy fight coming up on Saturday.
But then Fury and Wilder were asked for final remarks. Wilder kept it short by saying he's out for blood. Fury went next and things came off the rails.
Fury grabbed the microphone and wondered why if he cheated like Wilder's been accusing him of, why would he replace former trainer Mark Breland and insert Malik Scott into the head trainer position. He said Wilder didn't "have the brains to answer the question".
Fury spewed an expletive and went on to say he doesn't want to hurt Wilder, he just wants to win the fight. The WBC heavyweight champion said he knows that the native of Alabama doesn't believe that he really cheated, and deep down, Wilder knows he lost the rematch, and he's going to lose again this weekend. Fury proceeded to say that when he wins then, Wilder will retire and go back to working at a fast-food restaurant.
Having heard enough, Wilder finally spoke up and defended himself. The "Bronze Bomber" asked Fury why he switched trainers, going from Ben Davison to Sugar Hill Steward. Fury exclaimed that wasn't the answer to the question, and that was another question. After that, they started to verbally joust back and forth about switching trainers.
Then, Wilder accused Fury of not wanting certain media members in the room so he didn't have to answer the tough questions. Fury rebutted that Wilder's "in denial and your getting knocked out". Fury and Wilder continued talking over each other with the former saying the latter should just retire and Wilder saying Fury has no knockout power.
Wilder said Fury 'hit like a bitch, and I didn't feel nothing", and despite getting knocked down twice, he kept getting up. Wilder continued and proclaimed Fury isn't a knockout artist and that 41 of his 42 victories make him the real KO expert. Fury said he knocked Wilder out. Wilder disputed that. He said that a "disloyal trainer (Breland)" threw in the towel, and he fired Breland for stopping the fight.
Wilder said he defended his WBC title 10 times and never cheated, unlike his bold claim towards Fury, who was trying his hardest to talk over him. Wilder and Fury were screaming over each other on cheating, whose going to get knocked out, money and legacy before the host of the presser intervened and was able to settle things down before it got physical.
A staredown didn't take place as Fury and Wilder walked different ways off the stage.
"The understanding was no faceoff," Fury's co-promoter Bob Arum told DAZN News after the presser.
"We said no faceoff," Arum shouted, slapping his hands.
"There was no faceoff, and we saved the fight," Arum screamed.
