Bob Arum has said they will not pay Deontay Wilder any step-aside money, meaning the arbitration ruling that his trilogy match clause against Tyson Fury must be honoured.
Arum also says they're now going to go ahead with Fury vs. Wilder 3, leaving the current WBC champion's planned unification with WBA, WBO, and IBF titleholder Anthony Joshua in total collapse.
Amid speculation as to whether they would pay a sizeable chunk of the huge revenue expected from Fury vs. Joshua to convince the American to step aside and let it happen, Arum told Boxing Social that won't be the case.
"No, there's no chance that he [Wilder] will step aside. He doesn't want to step aside, except for a totally preposterous number, he explained in the video. "The judge said he had a right to a rematch, and we're going to go ahead with it."
Yahoo Sports' Kevin Iole reported that July 24 is indeed the planned date for the trilogy fight, following Fury and Wilder's initial draw followed by a seventh-round stoppage win for the Brit which earned him the WBC belt.
Initial reports suggested the new Allegiant Stadium, home of the NFL's Las Vegas Raiders, was favourite to land the fight, but Iole reports that the T-Mobile Arena — another relatively new building but one that has hosted big recent fight sports events including Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor — is a more realistic venue.
