Dillian Whyte's wait for a world heavyweight title shot continues after the WBC failed to order a fight against Tyson Fury at Tuesday's WBC convention.
After beating Deontay Wilder in a trilogy fight last month, the sanctioning body was going to put out a ruling about what would come next for Fury.
The WBC gave Fury 30 days to make a deal with the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, however this wasn't possible after Anthony Joshua activated his rematch clause for a second fight against the Ukranian. The pair are now due to face each other in early 2022.
Instead it was expected Fury would be ordered to face 'interim' titleholder Dillian Whyte, but the WBC have said it wasn't possible to order the fight due to Whyte's ongoing legal battle with the sanctioning body regarding his long wait for a world title shot.
Whyte's case has been ongoing for months, but the specifics are unknown, and with the legal challenge going to an arbitration court with no result, the WBC cannot order the mandatory.
This could mean that Fury now faces a lesser opponent in a homecoming fight next year after cementing his place as the world's number heavyweight last October.
