One fighter has big ambitions to see off a reigning champion when they meet.

Edgar Berlanga wants to bring Canelo Alvarez’s career to an end when the pair clash on September 14.

The fight, live on DAZN, will see the Puerto Rican puncher take a significant step up in class as he takes on the Mexican icon with super-middlewight glory on the line.

Canelo enters the contest looking to retain his titles, but will face off against a challenger with a strong belief he can best him.

Berlanga, once recognised as one of boxing’s best prospects, is eager to become world champion, and sending Canelo into retirement is high on his list of priorities.

“I definitely want to retire him, for sure,” said Berlanga when speaking to TMZ Sports. "That is my goal.

“I am not trying to disrespect him. He is a legend, but at the end of the day we have got to go in there and fight, have a tussle and we have got to do what we have got to do.

"He says how everybody wants the knockout, but are you going to deliver it or not?

“He has been saying in the last three [to] four fights that he is going to knock somebody out in the seventh or eighth round and he never did that."
