The former champion is hoping to win back his belts.

Former unified lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko is still aiming to return to the top of the division after Teofimo Lopez lost to George Kambosos Jr. on the weekend.

Lopez was the favourite with the WBC franchise, IBF, WBA and WBO titles on the line, titles he took from the Ukrainian in October 2020 in a huge upset.

The 24-year-old American’s next move is unclear but he is expected to move up to 140lbs, meaning there’s little chance of a rematch, while Richard Commey will be Lomachenko’s next fight, on December 11.

He hopes to follow up that clash with a title shot against the 28-year-old Australian.

Speaking of his aims for the rest of his career, he said to Sky Sports: "Of course, for belts. It's my goal in boxing now. Undisputed world champion, this is my motivation.

Of Kambosos, he commented. "We'll see. Of course, I want this fight, but first of all I have a fight on December 11, and my focus is on this fight.

"After this fight, I can talk about my future."

Speaking of the upset result, Lomachenko explained: "Before the fight, I gave some chance for Kambosos, but of course I thought Lopez would win this fight.

"But it is what it is. This is boxing life."
