Agit Kabayel is set to be confirmed as Tyson Fury’s opponent for his fight on 5 December, according to his co-promoter Frank Warren.
The Queensberry Promotions head told British radio station talkSPORT that the German fighter had been sent a contract to finalise the agreement to face Fury at the Royal Albert Hall.
Warren said: “Tyson’s fighting on December 5.
“We’re giving the guy we wanna fight, which is Kabayel, we’re giving him 24 hours now to sign the contract or we’re gonna move on.
“He’s undefeated and has a win on his record over Derek Chisora.
“He [was] the European champion and he’s ranked by the WBC.
“That’s who’s sitting at the moment on a contract and we’re waiting.
“He’s got about 24 hours now to make his mind up to sign it and send it back or we’ll move on.
“He’s the fight, subject to the contract being signed.”
The 28-year-old Kabayel has a mixed record, with a 2017 win against Herve Hubeaux to claim the European heavyweight title, and then a victory over Chisora to defend it to his name.
However since his win over Chisora he has failed to make a high-profile fight, and he has lost his European title.
He does have experience of facing off against top talent, but only away from the competitive arena, when he sparred with current heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
Joshua and Fury are set to meet in April 2021 and again the same year for a rematch, after Fury said he has ‘moved on’ from his contract with Deontay Wilder, who disputes the dissolution of that agreement.
