Tyson Fury has until Aug. 26 to confirm his retirement to the WBC.

The WBC heavyweight champion has vacated his Ring belt, leaving the title to be decided by next weekend’s fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia.

However, the WBC has allowed Fury to retain the belt despite announcing his retirement after fighting Dillian Whyte in April at Wembley Stadium and again last week.

Many believe that Fury will stay champion to face the winner of Usyk vs. Joshua and contest the title of undisputed heavyweight champion.

However, the WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman told Izquierdo that he has ten days to confirm his status.

“We had a conversation with his promoter, and we gave him ten days, until the 26th [of August], so they can send us a written confirmation of his final decision," he said. “With that, we can proceed to address the situation with the belt.

“We will wait until August 26th. That is our deadline to have a formal confirmation of their final decision. We have no rush. He has been a big hero inside the ring and out of it”.

Sulaiman has plans for Fury if he retires, explaining: “We talked about that (with his promoter). We will be waiting for him in Mexico.

“If he confirms his retirement, we will have a big celebration for Tyson Fury."

“He decided to say goodbye to boxing, despite being at the peak of his career.

“He has a beautiful family. He is enjoying life, and he still has a lot to give inside the ring and out of it."
