'We could’ve sold out three Wembleys' - Eddie Hearn predicts 'monster' Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn clashDAZN

Eddie Hearn believes Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn will be a ‘monster’ event.

The two British fighters meet at a 157lb catchweight on October 8 in perhaps the biggest event in the country for years.

Benn will move up from welterweight while Eubank faces the challenge of coming down from his usual middleweight/super middleweight physique.

Interest is piqued not just due to the quality of the two fighters themselves, but as a result of their fathers  - Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr. - who clashed three decades ago.

Hearn told the BBC how the fight was finally made.

“For years I’ve been trying to do a big fight with Chris Eubank,” Hearn said, reported BoxingScene.com.

“But Kalle Sauerland’s involvement—a friend of mine and someone I’ve worked [with]—changed everything. It enabled us to have sensible conversations.

“Do you know how hard it was … the last three or four weeks holding my tongue,” Hearn continued.

“Because one wrong word and the fight’s off. I’ve learned my lesson from the past, because when we tried to make the Golovkin fight in the past it fell through, for stubbornness from everybody and I really wanted this fight. We got it over the line.”

The promoter explained  that he has high hopes for the size of the fight, saying: “For five days we had been waiting for Eubank to sign. He had been playing poker in Vegas…and it was like,' is this ever going to happen' and when it did…people talk about, 'you should’ve done it at Wembley.' We could’ve sold out three Wembleys. [But it will be at the] O2, October the 8th, monster.”
