The subject of Ryan Garcia’s next move was a hotly discussed topic on the most recent episode of DAZN’s Boxing with Chris Mannix show. Joined by Boxing Scene’s Keith Idec, Mannix and his guest engaged in conversation on what direction the popular lightweight will move towards following his stunning win over Luke Campbell in January.
With the 135lbs division arguably the most stacked in boxing’s current landscape, Garcia is not short of lucrative targets. Teofimo Lopez, Vasyl Lomachenko, Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney join Garcia at the top table, but who will Golden Boy’s top fighter take on next?
“I do think that Ryan Garcia legitimately wants to fight Gervonta Davis,” stated Idec when pushed on the matter. “So, you have to credit Ryan Garcia for being ambitious and wanting what is a dangerous fight for him, also a dangerous fight for 'Tank' Davis. Both of the guys deserve credit if that fight can come together.”
Despite constant speculation linking Garcia to fights with the division's biggest hitters, Oscar De La Hoya, the Californian’s promoter, has hinted at taking Garcia on a world tour to showcase his prized asset to a wider audience.
“It’s hard to say what Oscar De La Hoya is trying to do with him,” said Idec. “He didn’t really divulge details other than it was some sort of three-fight world tour. Why would you take Ryan Garcia halfway around the world? Why wouldn’t you have that fight in southern California? That seems to make more sense to me.
