The dust may only just be settling on the undisputed welterweight clash between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford, but already attention is turning towards a potential rematch.
Saturday night saw the pair meet in a fight years in the making, but what transpired was a performance many did not expect.
After a cagey first round, Crawford dominated in his southpaw stance and was able to land his power shots with ease throughout the contest. 'Bud' went onto knock down Spence three times during the fight, once in round two and then twice in round seven.
The third knockdown spelled the beginning of the end for Spence who despite showing tremendous courage, was struggling to defend himself against Crawford and the referee finally stopped the fight in the ninth.
With Crawford now the newly crowned undisputed welterweight champion, it's likely that a rematch clause will be activated by Spence, but what weight it will be contested remains up for debate.
Spence has made no secret that he has plans to move up to light middleweight after fighting at 147lbs for the majority of his career and if a rematch was to be made, DAZN Boxing Show host Akin Reyes would like to see both men move up in weight for the second encounter.
"At 147, I don’t think that the demand will be there, I don’t think we will get this turnout," Reyes said.
"Let’s wait and see what the PPV numbers are come next week, we know that takes a couple of weeks to get the accurate number, let’s see.
"Maybe we hit that one million mark, and maybe if the fight is at 154 we can re-sell it, re-promote it.
"‘Bud’ is a man of his word, he’s a solid dude, he [Errol Spence Jr.] gave him the opportunity to become undisputed, I’m sure ‘Bud’ will give him the opportunity whether it will be at 154 or 147."
Barak Bess meanwhile made it clear his problems with rematches, but with this clause being written into the fight contract, it will be one he can let slide.
"I always say that I don’t like rematches no matter who wins or loses unless it’s close," Barak began.
"I want that winner to go on and fight somebody else and cement his legacy. Your legacy is about who you fought, and how many people you fought.
"But it’s on paper, it’s going to be another $20m night, why not?"
