Who is the world's number one lightweight: George Kambosos Jr. or Vasiliy Lomachenko?Matchroom
Who is the best fighter at 135lbs produced a heated debate on JABS.

The lightweight division has been a major topic of discussion amongst boxing fans across the globe in recent weeks.

First came George Kambosos Jr.'s shock win against Teofimo Lopez to become the new unified champion, then Devin Haney successfully defended his WBC title the following week to all but set up an undisputed showdown, and this past weekend Vasiliy Lomachenko showed why he is still a force to be reckoned with at 135lbs with a points win against Richard Commey after knocking the American down in the seventh round.

But who is the number one lightweight fighter?

This became a heated debate between Chris Mannix and Sergio Mora on JABS who narrowed it down to two names.

Sergio Mora backed the WBA, WBO and IBF champion Kambosos as the world's best fighter at lightweight on the basis that he beat Lopez who before their clash on November 27th was considered the number one at 135lbs.

"There’s only one number fighter in the world, he’s the top dog right now and he lives Down Under, George Kambosos Jr," Mora said.

"He is the man who beat the man that beat the man, that makes him the man.

"The lineal champion George Kambosos is the number one in my book."

However, while he did have plenty of respect for the Australian's recent achievement, Mannix believed it's Lomachenko following his dominant performance against former world champion Richard Commey at the weekend.

"George Kambosos all the respect in the world for beating Teofimo Lopez, you have most of the recognised titles at lightweight, but I don’t know how you watch the fight this past weekend and not think Vasiliy Lomachenko is the number one guy at 135lbs," Mannix claimed.

"Lomachenko followed up a complete destruction of Nakatani by blowing out Richard Commey.

"This was a fight which officially went to a decision, but it only went that far because Lomachenko got a conscience or something in the seventh round and did what I’ve never seen before which is look at the corner of Commey twice and say ‘are you going to stop this?’.

"Commey got a second wind and was able to finish the fight, but Lomachenko completely dominated.

"In this past year in his two fights at 135 we have seen Lomachenko look strong, look fast and showcase a good chin so for all those reasons, even without a title, I think Lomachenko is the number one guy at lightweight."

Mora continued to back Kambosos because of the three world titles he currently holds, however when asked by Mannix who would come out on top in a fight between the Australian and Lomachenko, The Latin Snake gave a slight edge to the Ukrainian.
