Who should Josh Warrington fight next: Leigh Wood or Mauricio Lara?

Who should Josh Warrington fight next: Leigh Wood or Mauricio Lara?DAZN
Chris Mannix and Sergio Mora debated Josh Warrington's future on JABS.

Josh Warrington's stock has risen considerably following his win against IBF world featherweight champion Kiko Martinez on Saturday night.

Warrington has once again made himself one of the best fighters at 126lbs, but now The Leeds Warrior is hoping some big money fights to cement his legacy.

A clash with WBA 'regular' champion Leigh Wood or a trilogy fight with Mauricio Lara have been discussed, but who would be the better option for Warrington?

Speaking on JABS, DAZN Boxing analyst Sergio Mora believes a fight with Lara should next for Warrington.

"Mauricio Lara because Lara deserves it," Mora said.

"The fight with Leigh Wood, that would be great too, but that can wait.

"This is an opportunity that Lara deserves to be in, he’s the one that’s on a win streak, he’s the one that got the upset of the year against Warrington.

"That second fight was unfolding to be an exciting, physical fight as well because their styles mesh.

"Warrington is not a puncher, he’s a boxer, but he knows how to get feisty in there, Lara’s a gunslinger.

"I want to see the trilogy, it’s needed, I think fans will love to see it and their styles mesh for each other and it makes perfect TV."

Chris Mannix, on the other hand, thinks Warrington needs to stay away from Lara after failing to beat the Mexican in their two fights last year.

"If I’m Josh Warrington, I’m not going anywhere near Mauricio Lara," Mannix began.

"Josh Warrington is in the twilight of his career, he’s only 31-years-old, but before this recent fight against Martinez, we were talking about and Eddie Hearn was talking about this being ‘win or go home’ for Josh Warrington.

"What Warrington needs to do now is look for the biggest money fights and the biggest money fight out there right now is a fight against Leigh Wood.

"A fight against Lara would be exciting no doubt about it, but Sergio, I think it probably ends the same way the first fight did."

Mannix then broke down Warrington's win over Martinez and spotted some flaws which could make a third fight with Lara a difficult task for the IBF featherweight champion.

"I watched that fight between Warrington and Kiko Martinez, and Warrington looked great early no question, then he looked great at the end, but in between he took some shots from Kiko Martinez and during that fight he broke his jaw and he broke his hand.

"This is after getting battered by Mauricio Lara just last year so I think the punch resistance is starting to go with Josh Warrington and if your punch resistance is limited, you don’t want to get in the ring with Mauricio Lara.

"That guy is a straight killer, he is going to come at Josh Warrington throwing bombs."
