The DAZN Boxing Show discussed who Shakur Stevenson could fight next after beating Jamel Herring this weekend.
Stevenson stopped the previous WBO super featherweight champion on Saturday night in Atlanta, becoming the new belt holder. In the immediate aftermath of his win, the 26-year-old American called for a fight with Oscar Valdez in what would be a unification fight.
Ak ‘Akin’ Reyes and Barack Bess discussed what could be on the horizon for the newc champion.
“I love that he mentioned Gervonta Davis,” Bess said.
“But listen, somebody else also added to this and that's Terence Crawford. He loves both fighters. They're both close to him. This is what Terence said on Twitter: ‘I keep telling people that little bro Shakur, he is going to be the next one to take over boxing.’
“But what do I know? Does Stevenson have the most potential out of all of these young guys?”
Reyes agreed that modern fighting has some of the best talent in history.
“That's a tough question because I don't want to undermine a lot of these other young talented fighters,” he acknowledged.
“If you're talking about pure boxing skill, yes, I would say that I don't see anybody being as skilled as Stevenson, but when it comes to potential a lot of other things play a part.
“Power... There are times where a less skilled fighter could beat a more skilled fighter because there are other variables that play a part in a boxing match. So there's tons of potential in boxing today. I've said it plenty times: I think that this is the era with the most talent ever in history. That's my opinion.”
