Mexican welterweight Raul Curiel extended his professional record to 13-0 after he stopped the experienced Courtney Pennington in the tenth and final round of their contest on Thursday night.
While Curiel remains undefeated with this victory, it proved to be a vital learning experience. Pennington's constant movement forced Curiel to come forward.
However, Curiel was unable to cut off the ring and instead was forced to throw power shots, therefore his performance was not as fluid compared to previous fights.
Curiel looked more comfortable in the second half of the bout as he found more success with his right hand and in the final round increased the pressure.
As numerous combinations from the Mexican landed successfully on Pennington, the American was clinging on, but with just 10 seconds left in the round a Curiel right hand and left hook landed successfully which prompted the referee to jump in and stop the fight.
