Dillian Whyte and Oleksandr Usyk have emerged as the favourites to be Tyson Fury’s next opponent.
Fury finally settled his trilogy rematch with Deontay Wilder on Saturday night in Las Vegas when an exacting bout ended with an 11th round stoppage.
That was Fury’s first successful world title defence after a troubled career, and the WBC fighter will likely next fight in 2022 after a year and a half out of the ring since his last fight against Wilder.
Whyte has been the WBC mandatory challenger for 1,000 days - with an intermission when he lost and then regained his designation to Russian Alexander Povetkin - and it seems the governing body will not ask him to wait much longer for his chance. Betfair make him 5/4 favourite for the next fight to be his.
Usyk is also a contender at 3/1, but Anthony Joshua has exercised a rematch clause for early 2022 in an attempt to win back the IBF, WBA and WBO belts he lost at the end of last month. It would be something of a surprise if Fury was able to skip straight to Usyk, and there is a chance that Joshua is his next opponent at 6/1.
