Will Mikaela Mayer be pound-for-pound number one with a win against Alycia Baumgardner?

September 10 is set to be a huge night for women's boxing.

Not only are Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall going head-to-head for the undisputed women's middleweight title at London's O2 Arena, but IBF and WBO super featherweight champion Mikaela Mayer looks to take another step towards becoming an undisputed champion when she faces WBC title holder Alycia Baumgardner in the co-main event.

If Mayer does come out on top against her American rival, there will certainly be a change on many pound-for-pound lists, including DAZN's.

Mayer is currently ranked sixth on DAZN's women's top 10 pound-for-pound list, and when speaking to The DAZN Boxing Show, Mayer believes she deserves to move at least above Amanda Serrano with a win over Baumgardener.

"When I beat Baumgardner I definitely think I deserve a jump on the pound-for-pound list," Mayer said.

"It doesn’t make me undisputed beating Baumgardner, but I think it moves me past Serrano, I think it puts me at least one spot higher, number three."

While a victory on September 10 may not see an immediate rise to the top of pound-for-pound lists, Mayer claimed that a win over WBA champion Hyun Mi Choi for the undisputed women's super featherweight title should result in her becoming the number one women's pound-for-pound fighter.

"But if I get that fight [against Choi], I think it bumps me up to number one, 130 [lbs] is a very stacked division."
