Anticipation is building ahead of a stacked UFC 287 card in Miami on Saturday night.
The co-main event alone between Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal is a fight that has got MMA fans excited, but there will be plenty of focus on the UFC title match at the top of the main card.
This will be between Alex Pereira, who makes the first defence of his UFC middleweight title, and Israel Adesanya in a repeat of their matchup at UFC 281.
But who won the first fight when these two met last year?
When was UFC 281: Adesanya vs. Pereira 1?
The first fight took place at UFC 281 on November 12, 2022.
Where was UFC 281: Adesanya vs. Pereira 1?
The contest took place at the historic Madison Square Garden in New York.
Who won Adesanya vs. Pereira 1?
Going into the fight, Alex Pereira had already enjoyed success against Israel Adesanya with two wins over the Nigerian during their time as kickboxers.
Now on MMA's biggest stage, it was a chance for Adesanya to prove the doubters wrong and get his first win over the Brazilian while successfully defending his UFC middleweight title.
At first, it looked like Adesanya was well on the way to getting that first win over Pereira, hurting him twice and seemingly in control for a decision victory.
However, the Brazilian shocked Adesanya with a hard-hitting combo in the final round with a right hand that rocked the defending champion who froze on the cage.
This gave Pereira the perfect opportunity to continue landing strikes and with Adesanya defenceless, the referee was forced to stop the fight at 2:01 in the fifth round.
All three meetings with Pereira have ended in a loss for Adesanya, but the loss at UFC 281 would have hurt the most with the UFC middleweight title being put around Pereira's waist.
At UFC 287, Adesanya will be out for revenge, but he would have to put in one of his career best performances if he is to beat the man who seemingly has his number.
