British UFC heavyweight star Tom Aspinall has expressed his desire to face the current champion of the division Jon Jones.
Jones was crowned the heavyweight champion at UFC 285 after beating Ciryl Gane in Las Vegas and now has a target on his back with some of the younger talents wanting their shot at one of the greatest athletes to grace mixed martial arts.
However, with Jones' age and sporadic appearances inside the Octagon, there is a fear that the American may not be around for much longer and this is something which concerns Aspinall as he looks to push for a title shot.
"Jones has nothing left to prove. He'll probably have this Stipe fight and then call it a day, maybe one more after that. I don't think he needs to fight a load of contenders," Aspinall told BestGamblingSites.
"It would be my absolute dream to fight Jon Jones but realistically I don't know if it happens. I don't know if someone like Jon Jones needs to fight a load of contenders. Stipe, one more maybe, and then I think he calls it a day."
With a 12-3-0 record, Aspinall still has a lot to learn before fighting for the UFC's top honours and while it's something that the 29-year-old acknowledged, he claimed that he is better in every aspect of the fight game compared to Jones.
“I'd need a bit more experience before jumping in with Jones, a bit more main event experience because that's what he's got over me massively. He's had a million title fights and I've had zero," Aspinall explained.
"I've only done two main events, so handling the pressure is something I'm still getting used to. I'd like a bit more of that stuff before I fight him, but as far as skill level, he does not outclass me in any area, but he's definitely the best of all time and I would need to be the best prepared I can.”
