On Tuesday night while addressing the media following the first episode of Dana White's Contender Series, UFC president Dana White revealed that Conor McGregor would not be fighting in 2024.
McGregor caught wind of White's update and took to Twitter to campaign for a December return.
“Ah Dana, December is the date!” McGregor wrote in a since-deleted tweet. “Bring the calendar year home with a winning event! Come on now, what’s this? I am off to altitude next month to prepare. DECEMBER! Tell Dana and UFC WE WANT DECEMBER! WE DESERVE DECEMBER!”
McGregor was supposed to fight Michael Chandler on June 29 but a toe injury forced him from the fight. McGregor appears ready and willing to fight but no new date has been revealed yet.
Chandler, who waited years to finally get the fight, also reacted to White's announcement and McGregor's December comments.
"Ah conor, the sport will move on and thrive without you," he tweeted. "Put to bed. Laid to rest. Soon a distant memory. You’ve vastly overestimated your importance inside of this game for almost a decade. Godspeed."
