Ian Garry has revealed that he wants to face Khamzat Chimeav in what he deems would be his dream fight.
Since making his UFC debut in 2021, Garry has impressed during his five victories with the promotion. Now he returns to action at UFC 292 on Saturday when he takes on Neil Magny in a welterweight contest.
With Garry being billed as Ireland's next UFC superstar, a win over Magny would go onto help cement this status as it will see him break into the top 10 of the UFC's welterweight rankings, and Garry reflected on how proud he is to represent his country in a recent interview with the Sporting Post.
"I'm coming back to Ireland a week after this fight and I'm going to be coming back as a ranked fighter in the top ten of the UFC, which is going to be such a special feeling," Garry said.
"So carrying that flag, carrying that banner, and being Irish, and being the next superstar out of Ireland in the UFC, it's so powerful and it's so special to be from such a small country and achieve such great things.
"I love Ireland and the people of Ireland and I just want the people of Ireland to be excited by my journey.”
A break into the UFC's top 10 welterweight rankings would catapault Garry's career to another level and surely it would only be a matter of time until he replicates McGregor's legacy and brings the UFC to Ireland.
This is something which has played on Garry's mind and he even went onto name the dream opponent if the MMA promotion was to return to the Emerald Isle.
“It would have to be in the Three arena in Dublin, Ireland as my dream venue because they're never going to go to Croke Park," Garry began when speaking about his dream fight.
"And the dream opponent would be me versus Khamzat Chimeav because everyone talks about him like he’s this badman and this boogeyman, but in time I'm going get a chance to lay hands on him, - if he's the baddest man that everyone is afraid of - I’m going to show the world what’s up.
"He’d be my dream opponent in Ireland. I want that f—g wolf. I want that badman. I want to be the baddest man on earth, and everyone considers it to be him at the moment, but let me punch the mouth off him and we’ll see what’s up.”
