It is not unusual for things to get heated at a UFC press conference, the list of examples is endless.

But what is unusual is for the war of words to end in tears, and that is exactly what happened at the UFC 305 press conference in Australia on Friday.

Reigning UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis touched a nerve when throwing insults towards former champion Israel Adesanya.

Adesanya accused Du Plessis of bringing his family into the argument, and had tears in his eyes as he told the crowd: "He touched a subject there, because I do this for my family, I do this for the people I love and I'll fight for you forever."

There has been no love lost between the two African fighters, with the press conference proving to be the boiling point.

After regaining his composure, Adesanya went on the offensive, saying: "I am a human being, I am a man, I can cry and whoop your a-- at the same time.

"I feel the love from the crowd, the first time I fought here was UFC 221 in February 2018, that was me making my dreams come true.

"On Sunday I'm going to kill your dreams b----."
