Much of the buildup to UFC 309 has been Jon Jones' unwillingness to fight Tom Aspinall next but the tides are starting to change and Jones is finally bringing Stipe Miocic into the conversation.
During a pre-fight UFC 309 Countdown episode, Miocic spoke candidly about Jones. “Bring it on b—h. Bring it on b—h.”
Jones caught wind of the comments and was not happy that the mostly respectful fighter had spoken that way about him.
“See the disrespect, you calling me a b—h, Stipe. The disrespect didn’t have to happen. You’re gonna wish you didn’t say that,” Jones said in a video in the days before their Nov. 16 affair.
Jones also took to his X account to slam Miocic for allegedly hiring fighters to mimic Jones' style. “Hiring black fighters to mimic me will not help you, Stipe. And you shouldn’t have called me a b—h, the disrespect wasn’t necessary. Let’s play."
The fight between Jones and Miocic was supposed to happen this time last year but an injury forced Jones out of the matchup. Now they are finally going to fight, despite an interim champion waiting in the wings.
