Jorge Masvidal appeared to have called time on his MMA career when he failed to beat Gilbert Burns at UFC 287.
However, Masvidal is leaving the door open to an Octagon return, but there is just one name he wants to face.
This name is former UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards who has not fought since losing his title to Belal Muhammad earlier this year at UFC 304.
Speaking to Sportsbook Review, Masvidal explained why he is eager to face Edwards and is very confident that he can beat one of British MMA's biggest stars.
“Leon Edwards is the fight I want, I just want the chance to fight him. Leon’s the number one guy I’m targeting," Masvidal said.
"I’ve never been a guy to go after number 30. I've always chosen to fight the best guy around, which has probably not been the best approach, but f—k, I love to fight,"
“Me and Leon have a little bit of history. He’s a great competitor, but I know I’ve got his number. I know he can’t impose his wrestling on me, he’s not that level of wrestler.
"His striking is good but I’m better, I'm more durable. I know I can f—k this guy up. All he has to say is ‘I want to fight that motherf—r’ and it happens.
"I’m one of the top pay-per-view draws, I’m in the top three pay-per-view draws. Do you want to make this money or not?”
While Masvidal has not fought in MMA for over year, he recently dipped his toes into the world of boxing.
In July, Masvidal faced Nate Diaz at Los Angeles' Kia Forum and unfortunately for the former suffered defeat by majority decision.
