A fight between the two is reportedly in the works for later this year.

UFC star Michael Chandler has casted some doubt as to whether a fight with Conor McGregor will take place later this year.

The pair were coaches on the recent series of The Ultimate Fighter and this rivalry was set to reach its climax with a fight in the Octagon.

However, while a date in December was being touted as a possibility, McGregor's decision to not enrol in USADA testing means this matchup is unlikely to take place before the end of 2023 unless the former UFC two-weight champion is granted an exemption.

Speaking on ESPN's DC & RC show, Chandler is unsure about a 2023 date, but is willing to wait until next year to participate in a fight which will capture the imagination of MMA fans across the world.

“It happening in December? I’m not holding my breath,” Chandler said

“But, you know I’m ready.

"You know (that) I’m ready tomorrow, but if it could happen by the end of the year, that would be phenomenal.

"But if it spills over into 2024, either way, the most exciting guy in the sport, myself, vs. the biggest star in the sport, and the greatest comeback in combat sports history, people are going to tune in and we’re going to put butts on seats.”

McGregor hasn't fought in the UFC since his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in July 2021. The contest was brought to an abrupt end in the first round by the cageside doctor after McGregor was deemed unable to continue after breaking his tibia.
