PFL founder explains how a Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall MMA fight can become a reality

PFL founder explains how a Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall MMA fight can become a realityPFL

Claressa Shields, the self proclaimed 'GWOAT', returns to the boxing ring on February 2 live on DAZN

Shields will once again be fighting in the heavyweight division, this time against Danielle Perkins for the IBF, WBC and WBO women's heavyweight titles

A win for Shields would cement herself as one of, if not the best women's boxer on the planet right now, but it's not just the sweet science where Shields wants to make a name for herself.

She is also eager to become an MMA star and is currently signed with the Professional Fighters League (PFL), along with a rival, Savannah Marshall.

Ever since Marshall made her MMA debut with PFL in June, it seems natural that she should continue her combat rivalry with Shields inside the PFL SmartCage, but according to PFL founder Donn Davis, the two fighters need to put in some work before they meet in MMA.

"I think it would be interesting to see Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall in MMA," Davis told Sky Sports

"I'm very realistic, I thought it [Marshall's debut] was ok. I think it would be interesting because both of their debuts were only ok.

"I'd like to see two of them work a little bit harder on their craft and then fight each other."

Currently, the rivalry between Shields and Marshall stands at one win apiece.

Marshall got the first victory on the board after beating Shields as an amateur in 2012 before the American got revenge in the professional ranks 10 years later for the undisputed women's middleweight title
