UFC 311 was supposed to be headlined by UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev and the challenger Arman Tsarukyan, but a short notice pull out from Tsarukyan saw a new main event in play. Due to a back injury to Tsarukyan, Renato Moicano was called up for a title shot on less than 24 hours notice. Moicano was already slated to be on the card so he was in fight camp but he wasn't preparing to fight the champion or fight a potentail five round affair.
“I regret to inform everyone that the news is that I had to pull out of UFC 311 with a back injury is true," Tsarukyan wrote on Instagram. "This was the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make in my fighting career. I would like to thank the UFC for understanding and I look forward to competing for my first UFC Championship in the future. Thank you all for your support.”
In the co-main event another title is on the line when UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili takes on Umar Nurmagomedov. Dvalishvili will be looking to defend his title for the first time since defeating Sean O'Malley at the Las Vegas Sphere last year.
