On Saturday in Macau, China, the UFC hosted a Fight Night card. The event aired live during the middle of the night for most North American fans, but the die hards were posted up to watch the card, even despite the brutal air time.
The card features a pivotal bantamweight fight between two former champions, Petr Yan and Deiveson Figueiredo, who are duking it out for a chance at facing the new reigning bantamweight king, Merab Dvalishvili.
Figueiredo is on a three-fight tear with wins over Rob Font, Cody Garbrandt, and Marlon Vera. He's certainly made a case for himself at 135 pounds and Dvalishvili seems open to the match-up. Yan hasn't had the easiest road since losing his title in 2021. He lost three in a row (Aljamain Sterling, Sean O'Malley, and Dvalishvili) but bounced back with a decision win over Song Yadong at UFC 299. If he can finish a former champion he'll put himself back on the path for a rematch with Dvalishvili down the road.
The card also plays host to the Road to the UFC finals.
