The DAZN MMA Show discussed Ronda Rousey’s potential return to UFC but were sceptical about whether she should, or if she would even really want to.
Rousey was the first women hall of famer in UFC, inducted in 2018 after her 2016 retirement, and she has built a successful career on screen and also as part of WWE.
Nevertheless, recent rumours suggested that the 36-year-old might be tempted back into the Octagon.
Sean O’Connell put forward the idea, saying: “She’s this incredible pioneer in women’s mixed martial arts, she brought women’s martial arts to the mainstream, I don’t think if there’s no Ronda Rousey then the UFC does not bring in the women’s weight classes when they did. Her place in the pantheon of great fighters is pretty safe because of what she represents.
“Do you want to see Ronday Rousey in competition again and do you think we will?”
Dan Hardy replied: “No and no, I imagine she woke up the next morning, drinking her coffee and scrolling through the headlines and she’s like, ‘What? No chance!’ She’s a WWE star, she’s loving doing that.
“I think she was really amazing in combat sports, but I always felt that wrestling was her thing. I think she’s in the right place for herself now. And you know MMA has moved on. If she came back it would have to be against a Holly Holm or Miesha Tate, just to have an even and fair match-up that would be of interest to the fans.
“The divisions now, bantamweight and featherweight, I don’t think it’s a wise thing to happen at all.”
