Late surge from Pato O’Ward seals day two win at IndyCar Detroit Grand PrixDAZN
O'Ward passed Josef Newgarden with three laps remaining for the win.

Patricio 'Pato' O'Ward capped a strong weekend at Belle Isle with victory in the second of two races at the IndyCar Detroit Grand Prix on Sunday.

O'Ward finished third on Saturday behind race one winner Marcus Ericsson, and produced a fine flourish to reel in long-time race two leader Josef Newgarden to take the lead with just three laps to spare.

The American had to settle for second place on the day as the Mexican driver secured his second win of the season, while Spain's Alex Palou came in third.

“I had such a great car all weekend and today it was my fault that we started from the back, making it hard for ourselves," said O'Ward, who now leads the overall championship standings. "But I knew I had a great car under me.

“This is a Team Chevy territory, I’m so excited and pumped to get them this [win].”
