Otto Wallin is well-positioned to provide Anthony Joshua with insights regarding Tyson Fury. In September 2019, Wallin extended Fury the 12 round distance in a valiant effort that eventually saw him lose on the scorecards. With speculation rife that the Brit pair are set to meet in a gigantic heavyweight unification clash, the Swede expects an explosive encounter when the long-awaited battle finally occurs.
“I think it’s a good fight,” Wallin told Boxing Scene. “I think everybody wants to see it, so I think it’s great for boxing and the division. I think Joshua and Fury are the best two heavyweights in the world right now. That’s gonna be a good fight.
“I’ve been watching [footage of] Joshua with Breazeale and, to me, he looked really good in that fight. But I feel somewhere along the way, maybe [Joshua] lost a little confidence in himself, for some reason. Maybe it was the loss with Ruiz. I don’t know.”
With the broader boxing public seemingly split on who will emerge victorious when Joshua eventually collides with Fury, Wallin expects a closely fought contest like the bulk of the fight industry.
“I think that with Fury being bigger, awkward and smart, and also very confident, it will make him the winner. I think that Fury’s the favorite, but Joshua is gonna be dangerous. He’s a good puncher. And I feel like Joshua has all the tools to beat him, but he just has to believe in himself a little more.”
