The pundit believes Arsenal's goalkeeping situation is difficult to manage.

Paddy Kenny has hit out at Jamie Carragher’s recent comments on Aaron Ramsdale.

Carragher implied that Ramsdale will have mixed feelings over David Raya’s recent save against Tottenham in last weekend’s North London Derby.

Speaking to William Hill, former Sheffield United ‘keeper Kenny said: “For Jamie Carragher to come out and say that kind of thing is a load of rubbish.

“From Ramsdale’s point of view, he’s part of the goalkeeper’s union. You train together away from the rest of the team, you’re a close-knit group, you all get on and you all want each other to do well. All he’s doing is appreciating that Raya has made an amazing save and he’s applauding it. I think it shows good respect despite the fact Raya has taken his position.”

However, Kenny echoed recent comments suggesting that rotating both Kenny and Raya is a practical long-term solution.

“I don’t understand it,” he said. “Goalkeeper is a specialist position and it’s good that they’ve got two top class goalkeepers, but when we talk about chopping and changing them like an outfield player, I’m not having it. As a goalkeeper you have an association with your back four, and people don’t see it, but you work separately with them in training.

“I think it’s possibly just a case of Mikel Arteta trying to be too clever. I can’t get my head round it. Aaron Ramsdale hasn’t done a thing wrong and why he has done it is beyond me – it’s just bringing unneeded attention to the club. One danger is that it could also end up destroying Ramsdale’s confidence.”
