Former Scotland striker Ally McCoist has named his number one candidate to replace Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea boss.
Pochettino was shown the door by the Blues this week despite finishing sixth in the Premier League. A whole host of names have been linked with the vacancy, with Ipwich's Kirean McKenna the reported front-runner for the post.
However, McCoist is wary of McKenna being given the task at Stamford Bridge and has instead tipped a former Premier League manager as his choice as the new Chelsea gaffer.
“It’s a funny one,” he told talkSPORT Bet.
“I thought Graham Potter would have been a good option at the time, so do Chelsea go left-field for someone like Kieran McKenna again? It would be a ridiculous gamble if they were to appoint him considering how little experience he has.
"He’s done a great job with Ipswich in the Championship, but Chelsea is a completely different kettle of fish.
“I initially thought Roberto De Zerbi was going to Juventus, but he’d probably be my pick to take over at Chelsea considering the squad that they have. I don’t think there’s any other outstanding candidates, which makes it a bizarre decision to sack Mauricio Pochettino in the first place, but De Zerbi would be my number one given the circumstances.”
