Manchester United have been warned off signing Antoine Griezmann by their former striker, Dimitar Berbatov.
The Atletico Madrid forward has been mentioned as a potential option to play alongside Rasmus Hojlund, or take over from him as the senior striker given his early-season struggles.
The Frenchman is a World Cup winner who has experience at Atletico as well as Barcelona, and has reportedly been close to signing for United in previous years.
Speaking to Betfair, Berbatov thinks that bringing in a player who would demand a starting spot, such as Griezmann, would only cause more problems at Old Trafford.
He said: “If United choose to go and buy someone in the January transfer market, I’m curious to see who that’s going to be.
“Antoine Griezmann has been linked in January, but if he comes, then what happens if Hojlund and Griezmann are fit?
“Griezmann needs to play because he’s Griezmann, so is Hojlund not playing then? If Hojlund doesn’t play, then it’s like, why did you buy him?
“It would become a mess. I don’t think that transfer will happen.”
