Arsenal remained six points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool with an emphatic 5-1 victory over four-time defending champions Manchester City on Sunday.

The Gunners broke the match open in the second half with four unanswered goals, but the tone was set inside the opening two minutes when captain Martin Odegaard scored the game's first goal following a Man City turnover inside their own half.

And while the Sky Blues were able to keep things close for about an hour, Arsenal's sheer determination shone through as they outpressed and outworked their visitors into submission.

"It was a top game and a top result," Odegaard told BBC Match of the Day. "The atmosphere was unbelievable, and we all enjoyed that one.

"We were rewarded with the high press, we won the ball and scored. Second half they scored, but the way we reacted was brilliant. Then, after that, it was unbelievable what we did."

The Gunners were compelled to claim all three points on Sunday after Liverpool defeated Brentford the previous day, as going down nine points at this stage of the season would be a massive deficit to overcome.

Odegaard acknowledged the burden his side are under to keep pace with the league leaders and lauded his teammates for stepping up when they needed to.

"There is a lot of pressure going into this game, but we played a brilliant game," he said. "We know we can beat any team and today we showed that."
