The German side were comprehensive in their second-leg win.

Wolfsburg will advance to the 2021-22 UEFA Women's Champions League semi-finals after defeating Arsenal 2-0 in the second leg of their quarter-final tie on Thursday. The teams played to a 1-1 draw in Leg 1, meaning the German side came away with a 3-1 aggregate victory.

Thursday's match was more one-sided than the score let on, with Wolfsburg enjoying control of the match througout the 90 minutes. In a first half that saw the visiting Gunners muster just a single shot, it was former Arsenal player Jill Roord who scored the opening goal for Wolfsburg in the ninth minute of play.

The 24-year-old's early strike gave the hosts exactly what they were looking for, allowing Wolfsburg to confidently dominate possession and frustrate their opponents during the first half.

Things went slightly better for Arsenal to start the second half, with desperation leading to more opportunities. However, the only time a Gunners player would find the back of the net came in the 72nd minute, when defender Leah Williamson scored an own-goal to give the hosts a two-goal lead in both the match and on aggregate. It would prove too much for the London club to overcome, as Wolfsburg ran out the clock and secured advancement into the semis.
